MRI Assessment of Articular Cartilage Repair
نویسنده
چکیده
Articular cartilage lesions in the young population predispose to the development of precocious osteoarthritis. Poor healing of cartilage damaged by trauma or degeneration has been ascribed to avascularity. Cartilage lesions are associated with significant morbidity, including lifestyle restrictions, especially in individuals engaged in sports. The past decade has seen the evolution of a number of sophisticated surgical repair procedures for the treatment of isolated, focal traumatic or degenerative cartilage lesions. The evolution of these surgeries MRI Assessment of Articular Cartilage Repair

MRI of articular cartilage: revisiting current status and future directions.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this article is to review the current understanding of the MRI appearance of articular cartilage and its relationship to the microscopic and macroscopic structure of articular cartilage, the optimal pulse sequences to be used in imaging, the appearance of both degenerative and traumatic chondral lesions, the appearance of the most common cartilage repair procedures, and...

Background: Surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of treatment protocols in septic arthritis; however, in some circumstances, the diagnosis and initiation of treatment may be retarded by slow disease progression or the time when the patient’s condition precludes early surgery. Therefore, it is beneficial to find ways to reduce the amount of articular injury. This study a...

Background and purpose: Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease affecting the synovial joints. Cartilage lesion is an important disorder at different degrees associated with osteoarthritis. The purpose of this systematic review was to determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valid and reliable tool to detect the articular cartilage lesions in patients with knee oste...
متن کاملImaging of articular cartilage: current concepts.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard method for non-invasive assessment of joint cartilage, providing information on the structure, morphology and molecular composition of this tissue. There are certain minimum requirements for a MRI study of cartilage tissue: machines with a high magnetic field (> 1.5 Tesla); the use of surface coils; and the use of T2-weighted, proton density...

The pathology, assessment, and management of articular cartilage lesions of the hip and knee have been the subject of considerable attention in the recent orthopaedic literature. MRI has long been an important tool in the diagnosis and management of articular cartilage pathology, but detecting and interpreting early cartilaginous degeneration with this technology has been difficult. Biochemical...
